You shall have no other gods before me.
Deuteronomy 5:7
Defined
The first of the Ten Commandments, an indication of importance, is to have no other gods before God in our life. It means to put the Great Goal of oneness with God ahead of everything else. Loving God is an absolute priority, not an emotion.
Issue
The path leaves no wiggle room for us to have any primary dependencies on other people, substances, food, TV, sports, sex, situations or social pressures. God within and His truth revealed become enough.
Result
When we learn to put God (Love) first, the rest of our lives will fall into place. Even the hardest situations become opportunities for God to be expressed through us in dark circumstances.
